Early in 2019, GEMS entered the 2019 Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) of Southern Africa Titanium awards. In July 2019 the Scheme was awarded the accolade of Excellence in Creating Access to Healthcare. As part of the prize, the Scheme received R50 000.00. The Scheme hereby confinils a donation of R50 000.00 matching the prize money, and took an opportunity to pay a total of R100 000.00 to the Gift of the Givers Foundation as part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.

The Scheme recognises the work that the Foundation is doing in providing lifesaving aid to millions of people in 43 countries, South Africa included.
