Overview
The Government Employees Medical Scheme (Gems) Symposium 2019 was held on October 2 and 3 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Complex in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
This year’s event focused on the impact that the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) will have on South Africa’s healthcare industry. Key industry leaders from both the private and public sectors met to share ideas and discuss the role of technology advances (such as artificial intelligence and mobile technology) in healthcare delivery.
Also discussed were the implications of 4IR for universal healthcare coverage; digital client interaction as well as cyber security.
The conference comprised Gems stakeholders, industry partners, service providers, government department human resource practitioners, healthcare industry experts and community members.
